Münchner Helles (Muenchner Helles) are pale to gold. Appearance should be clear. Chill haze is not acceptable. Fruity esters should not be present. Hop aroma is not present to low. Hop flavor is very low to low, derived from noble-type hops. Hop bitterness is low, derived from noble-type hops. Malt aroma and flavor are pronounced. Malt character is sometimes bready and suggestive of lightly toasted malted barley. There should be no caramel character. Very low levels of yeast-produced sulfur aromas and flavors may be present in balance with other characters. DMS and diacetyl should not be present. Body is medium. Many beer brands known as Austrian-Style Märzen (Austrian-Style Maerzen) are nearly indistinguishable from Münchner-Style Helles and are appropriately categorized here.
