76-C. Belgian-Style Strong Specialty Ale

Belgian-Style Strong Specialty Ales are a wide range of color and appearance depending on style. Chill haze is acceptable. Fruity esters are low to medium, in harmony with malt and other attributes. Hop aroma may vary widely, as is hop flavor and present bitterness. Malt aroma and flavor may vary widely depending on style. These beers contain alcohol greater than 5.6% abw or 7.0% abv when consumed. Beers in this category recognize the uniqueness and traditions of Belgian brewing, but do not hew to any other Belgian beer styles defined in these guidelines. Phenolic spiciness may be absent or may be present at low levels. Diacetyl if evident should be very low. Body varies with style. Balance is a key component when assessing these beers. Beers with lower alcohol than or equal to 5.6% abw or 7.0% abv are categorized as Belgian-Style Specialty Ale.
To allow for accurate judging the brewer must provide additional information about the entry including a traditional Belgian Ale style of underlying base beer which is not defined in this guideline, and/or any special ingredients or processing used. Beer entries not accompanied by this information will be at a disadvantage during judging.

　ベルジャン・ストロング・スペシャルティ・エールの色合いと外観は、ベースにしたスタイルごとに大きな違いがある。冷温白濁があっても許される。フルーティーなエステルはローからミディアムで、モルトやそのほかのキャラクターと調和がとれていること。ホップのアロマとフレーバーおよび苦味は、ベースにしたスタイルに基づく。モルトのアロマとフレーバーも、ベースにしたスタイルに基づく。ベルジャン・ストロング・スペシャルティ・エールは、アルコール度数が7.0%以上で、ベルギーのユニークで伝統的なビール醸造法に則っていながらも、このガイドラインに記されているベルジャンスタイルのどれにも当てはまらないビールである。フェノーリックなスパイス・キャラクターはまったくないか、あってもロー・レベルに留めること。ダイアセチルが感じられても、非常にロー・レベルなら許される。ボディはベースにしたスタイルごとに異なる。このスタイルを評価するうえで重要なポイントはバランスである。アルコール度数が7.0%またはそれ以下のものは、ベルジャン・スペシャルティ・エールに含まれる。
　このスタイルに出品するビールは、ベースにした伝統的ベルジャンエールのスタイル名(このガイドラインに記されていないスタイル)、および特別な原料を使っていればその名前と使用法を明示することが求められる。これらについての情報が添付されていないビールは、審査の際に不利となる場合がある。
