American Black Ales are opaquely very dark to black. Low to medium caramel malt and dark roasted malt aromas and flavors are evident. High astringency and high degree of burnt roast malt should not be perceived. Fruity-estery aromas and flavors should be low to medium. Hop aroma and flavor are medium-high to high, with fruity, citrusy, piney, floral, herbal or other hop aroma from hops of all origins. Hop bitterness is medium-high to high. Diacetyl if evident should be very low. Body is medium.

99. アメリカンスタイル・ブラックエール

　アメリカン・ブラックエールの色合いは、不透明で、非常に濃い茶色からブラックの範囲。カラメルモルトとダーク・ローストモルトのアロマがローないしミディアム・レベルで感じられる。高温で焙焦したモルト由来の強い渋味や焦げ臭があってはならない。フルーティーなエステルのアロマとフレーバーはローからミディアム。ホップのアロマとフレーバーはミディアム・ハイないしハイ・レベルで、フルーティー、シトラシー(柑橘)、パイニー(松脂)、フローラル、ハーバル、その他のキャラクターを特徴とする。同様のアロマとフレーバーが得られるなら、ホップの産地や品種は問わない。ホップの苦味はミディアム・ハイからハイ・レベル。ダイアセチルが感じられても、非常にロー・レベルなら許される。ボディはミディアム。
